The Institute

Label - In 1919, the German sexologist Magnus Hirschfeld opened his Institute of Sexology in Berlin.
Now referred to as the first sex and gender research and treatment centre in Europe, it was also a space for the trans and queer community to come together. In 1933 the Institute was raided by Nazi youth and most of its contents was destroyed.
This is a creative recreation of the Institute with the rooms representing the many different functions of the Institute and the various interests of those who spent time within it.
